Toghether for Munkamba

Toghether for Munkamba

Since 2010, the Associazione Volontari di Maria Immacolata (VMI) has been engaged in humanitarian missions to support the most vulnerable communities. Active in Bangui (Central African Republic) and Munkamba (Democratic Republic of Congo), the association offers concrete support through fundraising and direct interventions.

The Democratic Republic of Congo, one of the largest countries in Central Africa, is characterised by great cultural and ethnic diversity, but suffers from severe instability: the eastern provinces are the scene of violence, while malnutrition and poor healthcare remain the main causes of mortality.

In Kasai Oriental, the Munkamba Mission provides support to a total population of approximately 22,000 inhabitants. The region faces serious infrastructural and economic difficulties, with impassable roads, contaminated water and the spread of diseases such as malaria and typhoid. To improve living conditions, VMI has acquired land with the support of local authorities and launched development projects.

Education is at the heart of the initiative: investing in young people is essential for progress. For this reason, the Association adopts an integrated approach, involving families, communities and institutions, with strong participation from the local population in defining the interventions.

Thanks to the Rotary Club Latina ‘San Marco’, the Carla Mercurio Foundation learned about this extraordinary project and decided to offer a significant contribution to strengthen educational and training initiatives, which are essential pillars of community development.

In line with its mission, the Foundation has chosen to support the project so that it can continue to grow and offer ever greater opportunities, security and dignity to local communities.
